Memorial Day began with fog, drizzle, and damp air across several parts of the US as weather systems brought slow-moving clouds and scattered showers to many regions. Early morning conditions affected travel and outdoor events, including parades and remembrance ceremonies planned for the federal holiday.
Forecasters reported that dense fog and mist were expected to remain in some areas through around 9 a.m. Local weather stations said visibility could stay reduced during the morning commute. Temperatures started in the 50s and low 60s before rising later in the day.
Foggy Morning Impacts Holiday Travel And Outdoor Events
Weather agencies and local broadcasters warned residents to prepare for wet roads and lower visibility during the first half of Memorial Day. Some locations also experienced light drizzle and isolated downpours during the morning hours.
Meteorologists said the weather pattern was linked to humid air moving through parts of the eastern US. Officials advised drivers to slow down and use headlights in fog-prone areas.
By the afternoon, skies were expected to gradually clear in several regions. Temperatures were forecast to reach the upper 60s and mid-70s, creating warmer and more humid conditions later in the day.
Mostly Dry Conditions Expected After Afternoon Clearing
Most areas were expected to remain largely dry by late Monday, although a few isolated showers could still develop in some communities, including parts of Northern Kentucky. Weather experts noted that sunshine could return by evening for many locations.
The warmer pattern is expected to continue into Tuesday and Wednesday. Inland areas may see temperatures climbing into the mid-80s, while coastal regions are expected to stay slightly cooler.
Midweek Rainfall Could Bring New Weather Concerns
Forecast models show a stronger chance of rainfall arriving on Wednesday. Some areas could receive between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain. Weather officials said the system may bring heavier showers compared with the lighter rainfall seen earlier in the week.
Conditions are expected to become drier again toward the end of the workweek.
