Under "Project Cheetah," 8 to 10 cheetahs will be brought to India from Namibia and South Africa. The initiative aims to boost biodiversity in the country, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Indian Oil.
As part of this project, efforts will be made to increase the population of cheetahs in India by translocating them from other continents. Indian Oil has become the first corporate entity to support the project through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The first phase of the project will bring 8 to 10 cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa to India, with plans to settle them in a national park in Madhya Pradesh.
India and Namibia had signed an MoU on July 20, 2022, to facilitate the translocation of the cheetahs. The project focuses on wildlife conservation and the sustainable use and preservation of biodiversity, with an emphasis on sharing best practices for conservation efforts.
