The government has implemented market-based Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations for plastic packaging waste, battery waste, e-waste, waste tyres, and used oil. These regulations set targets for minimum levels of reuse, recycling/refurbishment, and the use of recycled content where applicable, promoting a circular economy approach.
India has also joined the Global Alliance for Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency (GACERE), which aims to collaborate with governmental and non-governmental entities to advocate for a global and equitable transition to a circular economy and more sustainable management of natural resources.
Additionally, the Government of India participates as a member of the Steering Committee of the International Resource Panel (IRP), which provides authoritative scientific assessments on the policy implications of sustainable natural resource use.
