According to the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) Daily AQI Bulletin, Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 243, falling under the 'Poor' category.
The committee noted a recent increase in air pollution levels across Delhi-NCR and convened to assess the situation comprehensively. Discussions included technical insights and forecasts from IITM/IMD regarding the region's air quality. Factors such as changing wind patterns, dry weather conditions, and agricultural residue burning in neighboring areas were identified as contributors to the current pollution levels.
Following a thorough review, the Sub-Committee directed the concerned Pollution Control Boards (PCBs) and stakeholders to urgently implement the following measures:
· Conduct rigorous inspections at major pollution hotspots focusing on dust control measures and monitoring.
· Increase the deployment of water sprinklers and mechanical road sweeping equipment.
· Monitor and prevent instances of fire and open burning of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas.
· Strengthen vigilance by Dust Control & Management Cells (DCMCs) in road construction and maintenance projects.
· Enhance enforcement of dust control measures at Construction & Demolition (C&D) project sites by NCR State PCBs/DPCC.
· Intensify inspections by CPCB's Flying Squads to ensure compliance with regulatory directives.
The Sub-Committee emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to improve Delhi's AQI in the near future. It pledged ongoing monitoring and frequent reviews of the air quality situation in Delhi-NCR.
