The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is set to convene a two-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Bhubaneswar on November 14-15, 2024, aimed at strategizing India’s renewable energy future. The event will bring together key decision-makers from the government, industry, and financial sectors to discuss how to meet the nation’s ambitious renewable energy targets, including reaching 500 GW by 2030 and progressing toward 1800 GW by 2047.
Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, will inaugurate the event on November 14 at 9 AM. Also attending will be the Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi; Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik; Odisha’s Energy Minister, Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo; and MNRE Secretary, Shri Prashant Kumar Singh.
Discussions on Key Renewable Energy Challenges and Solutions
During the two-day event, experts and stakeholders will engage in thematic sessions covering critical issues in India’s renewable energy sector. Topics will include the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims for 1 crore rooftop solar installations, and strategies for scaling up solar and wind manufacturing in India. The Shivir will also address challenges such as the alignment of renewable energy capacity growth with transmission infrastructure readiness.
Other discussions will focus on emerging technologies, such as energy storage, green hydrogen, and the role of biogas in India’s energy mix. Participants will also explore how to integrate renewable energy in India’s northeastern states and islands, as well as how solarization and offshore wind energy can contribute to decarbonization.
Key Takeaways to Shape India’s Renewable Energy Roadmap
The event will conclude on November 15 with a valedictory session summarizing the outcomes of the discussions and charting the way forward. Organizers anticipate that the 'Chintan Shivir' will play a key role in shaping India’s renewable energy policy and help accelerate the country’s transition to a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
