Delhi Zoo Summer Programme 2026 Draws Massive Response As Students Join Mission LiFE Campaign

The National Zoological Park has launched its Summer Vacation Programme 2026 with strong participation from students across Delhi-NCR. The initiative started on May 21 at the zoo’s Education Centre under the Mission LiFE mass mobilisation campaign. The programme also aligns with the World Environment Day 2026 theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
The two-week programme focuses on biodiversity conservation, climate awareness, wildlife protection and sustainable living. Officials said the initiative aims to engage students through practical learning and interactive activities linked to environmental stewardship.
More Than 850 Students Registered For Limited Seats
According to zoo officials, 854 students registered online through the official portal of the National Zoological Park. Only 60 students were selected in the first phase through a first-come-first-served process. Participants were later contacted for confirmation.
On the opening day, 39 students from 15 schools across Delhi-NCR attended the programme. The session began with an orientation programme explaining the objectives of SVP 2026. Students later joined guided visits to herbivore and carnivore enclosures inside the zoo.
An expert session on biodiversity was delivered by Dr. Faiyaz A. ahead of the International Day for Biological Diversity. Officials said such sessions are designed to improve awareness about ecosystems and conservation challenges.
Activities Focus On Climate Action And Creativity
The programme is divided into Slot A and Slot B, each accommodating 50 participants, including junior and senior students from Classes VI to XII.
Activities include wildlife photography, heritage walks, essay writing, slogan competitions, clay modelling, poster-making and cleanliness awareness campaigns. Students will also participate in Mission LiFE awareness sessions and expert-led discussions on environmental sustainability.
Zoo Director Dr. Sanjeet Kumar interacted with participants and stressed the role of young people in biodiversity conservation through modern learning methods and environmental education initiatives.
The Summer Vacation Programme will continue until June 6, 2026.
