The weather forecast for the coming days suggests continued cold conditions and fog across the region, with varying degrees of intensity. On December 31, clear skies are expected throughout the day, though smog and shallow fog may develop during the evening and night. Winds from the northwest will remain light throughout the day, but will decrease further during the night.
On January 1, fog is likely to intensify, with moderate fog expected at isolated places. The morning hours will be marked by clear skies and calm winds. However, fog conditions will improve by the afternoon as wind speeds increase to 16-20 km/h, gradually easing again in the evening. Smog and shallow fog are anticipated to return during the night.
Health, Transport, and Power Sector Warnings
The dense fog and cold conditions pose several risks for the general public.
Transport and Aviation: Foggy weather will disrupt air travel, especially at airports where low visibility could delay flights. Road travel will be affected by reduced visibility, increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and use fog lights.
Health Risks: Dense fog contains pollutants that can aggravate respiratory conditions, particularly for those suffering from asthma or bronchitis. Extended exposure can cause eye irritation and respiratory issues, including wheezing and shortness of breath. To mitigate these risks, individuals should limit outdoor activities, cover their faces when outdoors, and avoid prolonged exposure to foggy conditions.
Agricultural and Livestock Impact: Farmers are advised to protect crops by draining excess water from fields and covering harvested produce. Cold weather conditions also pose risks to livestock, requiring shelters and additional care to prevent frostbite or other cold-related injuries.
As the cold wave persists, it is crucial to take preventive measures to safeguard health and property. The public is urged to stay updated on weather advisories and take appropriate action to ensure safety and well-being.
