The long-expected POWERGEN India 2024, in conjunction with Indian Utility Week and the pioneering Bharat Electricity initiative, has officially kicked off at Yashobhoomi, IICC Dwarka, New Delhi. Taking place from September 4 to 6, this transformative event unites global energy leaders, policymakers, and innovators to forge a visionary path toward a sustainable and climate-resilient future in India's pivotal Amrit Kaal era.
The opening session, titled "Explore, Collaborate, Access: Opportunities in Amrit Kaal Through Energy Transition," set the stage for action-packed discussions with key addresses from influential leaders. Shri Pralhad Joshi, the Hon'ble Union Minister for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Shri P. K. Pujari, IAS (Retd.), Honorary Chairperson of the Governing Council for POWERGEN India and Indian Utility Week, both delivered powerful messages.
Minister Joshi inspired the audience by declaring, “POWERGEN India, Bharat Electricity, and Indian Utility Week 2024 are not merely events; they are catalysts for global transformation. We are here to confront one of the most pressing challenges of our era: the green energy revolution. India’s remarkable progress in renewable energy and our bold investment of Rs. 7,453 crore in offshore wind projects demonstrate our unwavering commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future.”
Shri P. K. Pujari echoed this call to action, saying, “This event is a vibrant hub for innovation and collaboration. It provides an unprecedented opportunity for global leaders to exchange cutting-edge ideas, forge new business partnerships, and drive forward discussions on energy reforms and breakthrough technologies. Our mission transcends the replacement of fossil fuels; we are here to redefine the entire energy landscape.”
The first day buzzed with energizing sessions, including the "Curtain Raiser - Hydrogen Horizons: Empowering India's Energy Transition & Energy Independence," moderated by Shri Nitin Khanna, Managing Director - Energy, Accenture in India. The session illuminated green hydrogen’s potential, with Dr. R.K. Malhotra of the Hydrogen Association of India unveiling ambitious plans to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Meanwhile, Mr. Rajat Seksaria of Adani New Industries showcased their strategy for mastering the supply chain, and Shri Som Shantanu of GE Vernova highlighted the essential role of grid stability.
Another key session, "Leadership Plenary: Charting the Energy Horizon - Exploring Collaborative Pathways for Sustainable Access in the Amrit Kaal Era," brought together leaders from diverse sectors to strategize on enhancing sustainable energy access in India’s evolving market.
The "Industry Plenary: Steering India's Energy Future" tackled the surge in power demand, which has risen by 8 to 9% annually over the past two years in the wake of post-COVID economic recovery. Discussions also centered on the Ministry of Power’s comprehensive action plan to address this growing demand.
With over 200 exhibitors, more than 120 expert speakers, and 8,000 professionals in attendance, POWERGEN India 2024, Indian Utility Week, and Bharat Electricity present a dynamic platform for global energy leaders. The event, supported by key Indian ministries including the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, underscores India’s commitment to leading the energy revolution.
The day concluded with the Bharat Electricity Awards, honoring outstanding achievements in India’s energy sector, followed by a gala and networking reception that further fueled opportunities for collaboration among industry pioneers.
