On March 4, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Vantara, commending its role in promoting ecological sustainability and animal welfare. He expressed his admiration for the efforts led by Anant Ambani and his team, noting that the initiative serves as a sanctuary for animals while fostering ecological balance. The Prime Minister shared his observations of the facility, highlighting the treatment of animals that have suffered from cruelty, such as an elephant rescued from an acid attack and a lioness injured in a vehicle collision.
During his visit, Modi emphasized the importance of compassion and responsibility toward animals, urging society to take greater care in preventing harm to wildlife. His remarks underscored Vantara's commitment to providing not only medical care but also a nurturing environment for species that have endured trauma or neglect.
A Pioneering Initiative in Animal Welfare
Vantara, located in the Green Belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex in Gujarat, is a first-of-its-kind initiative focused on rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating injured, abused, and threatened animals, both from India and abroad. Spanning over 3,000 acres, the facility has been designed to replicate a jungle-like environment, providing a safe and natural habitat where rescued species can thrive.
The centre is home to over 2,000 animals across 43 species, including elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, crocodiles, and more. Vantara offers specialized care through state-of-the-art medical facilities, ensuring that each animal receives the necessary treatment for their physical and emotional recovery. This expansive sanctuary reflects the commitment of Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation to the protection and welfare of wildlife, with the aim of becoming a global leader in conservation efforts.
Comprehensive Care and Advanced Facilities
Vantara is equipped with cutting-edge medical and rehabilitation facilities, including a 25,000 square foot elephant hospital and a 100,000 square foot Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. The elephant hospital is dedicated to providing specialized care for elephants that have suffered abuse or injury, such as those rescued from acid attacks, truck accidents, and exploitative conditions. The centre also provides services for smaller species, including rescued leopards, tigers, and crocodiles.
The facility’s medical team consists of over 2,100 professionals, all trained in providing the highest standards of animal care. In addition to treating physical injuries, Vantara’s focus extends to the emotional well-being of animals, ensuring that they receive both medical attention and a nurturing environment to recover. The centre's collaboration with international organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) further enhances its impact on global wildlife conservation efforts.

A Commitment to Global Wildlife Conservation
Vantara’s mission is not only to rehabilitate animals but also to contribute significantly to the global effort to conserve endangered species. By integrating advanced research and collaborating with leading international conservation bodies, Vantara aims to drive forward best practices in animal care and wildlife protection.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit highlighted the broader importance of such initiatives in preserving biodiversity and ensuring the protection of species threatened by habitat loss, poaching, and other dangers. His remarks underscored the need for continued compassion and responsible behaviour toward wildlife, emphasizing that Vantara’s work is a vital step toward achieving long-term ecological sustainability and promoting animal welfare on a global scale.
