The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Madhya Pradesh to establish a 200 MW solar project in Dhar. The agreement was finalized during the ongoing Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, held from February 24 to 25, 2025.
This collaboration is part of a broader initiative to expand renewable energy capacity in Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on solar energy. The agreement also includes a 1000 MWh battery storage project, aimed at improving energy storage and stability in the region’s renewable energy grid.
A Strategic Step Toward Clean Energy
The new solar project in Dhar is part of a larger 500 MW agreement signed in 2023 between SECI and the MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL). Under the agreement, SECI will supply solar electricity to Madhya Pradesh for a period of 25 years. The 200 MW project is expected to significantly contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals.
SECI has outlined a phased capital expenditure of Rs 2500 crore for the development and expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. This move aligns with national objectives to increase the share of renewable energy in India's power generation mix, contributing to the country's clean energy targets.
Global Attention at the Investors Summit
The MoU was signed in the presence of key figures at the Global Investors Summit 2025, including Rakesh Shukla, Minister of New & Renewable Energy of Madhya Pradesh, and R P Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SECI. The event was inaugurated by India's Prime Minister and attended by global and national stakeholders, reflecting the growing international interest in India’s renewable energy sector.
The summit serves as a platform for fostering investment and collaboration across sectors, particularly in energy, technology, and infrastructure. The collaboration between SECI and the Government of Madhya Pradesh is a part of broader efforts to attract investment into India's renewable energy landscape, supporting the country’s energy transition goals.
