Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, is scheduled to embark on a three-day tour to Germany, beginning October 6, 2024. This visit aims to promote partnerships that may enhance India's involvement in the global energy transition.
Participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference
During his tour, Minister Joshi will attend the Hamburg Sustainability Conference on October 7-8, 2024. This event will provide an opportunity for him to engage with ministers and industry leaders from Germany, the UK, and other countries, focusing on areas such as Green Hydrogen, low-cost finance, and the renewable energy value chain. The conference may facilitate discussions on strategies and policies aimed at promoting sustainable growth.
Focus on Green Shipping and Hydrogen Mobility
At the conference, Minister Joshi will discuss India’s commitment to green shipping initiatives and the role of green hydrogen in de-carbonizing the mobility sector. These discussions will highlight India's approach to environmental issues and its interest in utilizing renewable technologies for economic development.
Elevating India-Germany Relations
This visit is expected to strengthen India-Germany relations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized these bilateral ties, with upcoming Inter-Governmental Consultations scheduled in India later this month. During the recent RE-INVEST 2024 conference, both nations launched the India-Germany Platform for Investment in Renewable Energies, aimed at creating business opportunities and facilitating technology transfer to meet the increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
India’s Role in Energy Transition
India has made significant strides in energy transition, achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target of 40% cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2021, nine years ahead of schedule. The country is on track to meet its goal of 50% by 2030. This progress reflects India's involvement in global renewable energy initiatives, including its role in the International Solar Alliance.
As Minister Joshi travels to Germany, his visit may enhance bilateral cooperation and support global efforts in sustainable development and renewable energy.
