In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to integrate yoga into daily life, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) organized large-scale yoga events across India on the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” highlighted the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental well-being, emphasizing sustainability and wellness.
Promoting Wellness and Tradition with Ethnoveterinary Displays
The celebration saw significant participation from various regions, including four key locations in Gujarat: Dwarka, Somnath, Hazira (Vadodara), and the Statue of Unity. In Vadodara, over 1,200 participants gathered for the event, which included a collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, the Indian Yoga Association, and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Shri C.R. Patil, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, emphasized yoga's role in promoting holistic health and ecological balance. A unique feature of the Vadodara event was the NDDB exhibition, showcasing ethnoveterinary practices and Ayurvedic livestock products, promoting sustainable and traditional animal care practices.
At the Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi, a yoga session was held with participation from senior officials including Smt. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of DAHD, and Shri Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries. A Common Yoga Protocol session followed, culminating in the live telecast of Prime Minister Modi's inspiring address, which reinforced yoga's importance in global health and sustainability efforts.
Nationwide Participation and Environmental Sustainability
The IDY celebrations also saw remarkable participation from Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) and Milk Producer Companies (MPCs) across the country. Nearly 8,000 DCS and 1.38 lakh farmers participated in Yoga Sangam events. In a demonstration of their commitment to environmental sustainability, over 12,000 saplings were planted during the celebrations, reinforcing the importance of maintaining ecological balance.
Through these events, DAHD emphasized the pivotal role yoga plays in fostering the “One Health” approach, which links the health of humans, animals, and the environment, promoting a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
