Teresa Ribera visited the headquarters and Global Technical Academy of Nordex Group in Hamburg on May 20 as the European Union increases focus on renewable energy, electrification, and industrial competitiveness.
Nordex Chief Executive Officer José Luis Blanco and Chief Financial Officer Ilya Hartmann hosted the visit and discussed the company’s role in Europe’s onshore wind energy sector.
Wind Energy Linked To Europe’s Energy Security Goals
During the discussions, European officials highlighted renewable energy and wind power as important parts of Europe’s long-term energy strategy. Ribera said the current energy situation has increased attention on domestic renewable energy sources as countries seek to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
She stated that wind energy could support energy security, electricity price stability, and industrial competitiveness across Europe. Ribera also pointed to investments in clean technologies, electricity grids, and electrification as priorities for the European Commission.
Nordex officials said wind energy remains one of Europe’s major industrial and strategic technologies. The company added that technical training and workforce development are becoming increasingly important as renewable energy projects expand globally.
Nordex Expands Global Wind Energy Operations
Nordex said its Technical Academies provide training for engineers, technicians, and industry partners across Europe and other international markets. The company stated that the program supports operational safety, quality standards, and technical expertise.
The company has installed more than 64 gigawatts of wind power capacity across over 40 markets since 1985. Nordex reported consolidated sales of approximately €7.6 billion in 2025 and employs more than 11,100 people worldwide, including around 8,200 workers in Europe.
Nordex manufactures onshore wind turbines in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, and the US as demand for renewable energy infrastructure continues to grow globally.
