Rain and humid weather conditions are expected to continue across the Special Region of Yogyakarta on May 15-16, according to forecasts from Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG). Weather agencies and climate analysts say regional monsoon activity and high atmospheric moisture are still influencing weather patterns across parts of Indonesia.
BMKG forecasts light to moderate rain across major districts including Kulon Progo, Bantul, Gunungkidul, Sleman and Yogyakarta. Temperatures are expected to range between 23 and 31 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels may rise above 95% in several locations.
Monsoon Conditions Still Affecting Indonesia
Meteorologists said Australia and Asian monsoon systems continue to affect rainfall distribution across Indonesia during mid-May. BMKG recently warned that significant rainfall may still occur in several regions due to moisture-rich atmospheric conditions and seasonal transitions.
Climate monitoring data also shows that May remains part of the wetter seasonal cycle in Yogyakarta, with frequent afternoon and evening showers common across the province. Experts note that high humidity and unstable atmospheric conditions increase the likelihood of rain and localized thunderstorms.
Authorities Advise Public To Stay Alert
Weather experts advise residents and tourists to monitor official forecasts before outdoor travel and tourism activities. Heavy rain in parts of Java in recent months has increased concerns about flooding, slippery roads and transport disruptions.
Officials said weather conditions may change rapidly depending on regional atmospheric activity.
