In a significant move to improve the health of aquatic animals, Union Minister of State for Forest, Environment, and Climate Change, Sh. Kirti Vardhan Singh, launched a new ‘Nano Bubble Technology’ at the National Zoological Park in Delhi on Tuesday. The innovative technology is being trialed for the first time in the zoo, where it will be used to clean and purify the water in the park’s ponds, benefiting the aquatic animals living there.
The nano bubble technology works by introducing microscopic bubbles into the water, which help to remove algae and other growths that can lead to water contamination. The 15-day trial is aimed at assessing its effectiveness in eliminating the dirt, foul smells, and discoloration commonly caused by polluted pond water. If successful, it will be implemented on a larger scale throughout the zoo to ensure a healthier environment for the animals.
Nano Bubble Technology: Cleaner Water, Healthier Animals
Minister Singh emphasized that the primary goal of this technology is to improve water quality, ensuring that the aquatic creatures in the zoo have clean, safe water to thrive in. "By preventing algae buildup and reducing unpleasant odors, nano bubbles create a more stable and healthy aquatic environment," he said. This is particularly important for the well-being of animals, as dirty water can negatively impact their health.
The technology uses nano-sized bubbles that are highly effective in breaking down organic materials, leading to cleaner water and a reduction in harmful bacteria and pollutants. As part of the trial, experts are closely monitoring the water conditions in the zoo’s ponds, with the potential for wider implementation if the results prove successful.
Present at the event were National Zoological Park Director Sanjeet Kumar, senior officers from the Ministry of Environment, and Anand Kapoor from the Nano Bubble Company, who presented the technology to the attendees.
A Step Toward Sustainable Zoo Management
This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to make the zoo’s operations more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The launch of nano bubble technology is a significant step in improving animal care and the park's ecosystem while addressing challenges posed by water pollution in urban settings.
If proven effective, the technology could be adapted for use in other wildlife reserves and zoos across India, contributing to better management of water resources and enhancing the overall health of wildlife. The National Zoological Park, known for its diverse collection of animals, is leading the way in adopting innovative solutions for animal care and environmental preservation.
The initiative also highlights the growing importance of technological advancements in conservation efforts and underscores the government's commitment to ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for both animals and people.
