Every year, the pilgrimage attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees from across India and abroad. It is one of India's largest annual religious gatherings and has significant social, cultural, and economic importance.
Five Resolutions Highlight Safety, Cleanliness, And Community Responsibility
In his letter, the Prime Minister outlined five resolutions for pilgrims:
1. Maintain cleanliness by following hygiene guidelines and helping keep the entire pilgrimage route clean.
2. Follow all safety and administrative instructions, including traffic regulations and security advisories. Pilgrims were also advised to remain cautious of slippery routes caused by rain and cold weather.
3. Support the local economy by spending at least 10% of pilgrimage expenses on locally made products under the "Vocal for Local" initiative, with the aim of strengthening the livelihoods of families and young people in Jammu and Kashmir.
4. Promote environmental conservation by gifting a sapling to a brother or sister on Raksha Bandhan, which coincides with the conclusion of this year's Yatra, and supporting the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign.
5. Uphold the spirit of "Nation First" by performing personal and professional duties with honesty throughout the year and contributing to the vision of a developed India.
The Prime Minister said these resolutions would strengthen the values of service, environmental responsibility, public participation, and national commitment during the pilgrimage.
Security Forces And Local Communities Recognized
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for personnel from the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, ITBP, BSF, NDRF, healthcare services, sanitation workers, and civil administration for supporting the Yatra. He also acknowledged the contribution of thousands of local residents who welcome pilgrims and assist through accommodation, transport, community kitchens, and volunteer services along the pilgrimage routes.
He noted that the Amarnath Yatra reflects India's diversity and unity while showcasing the tradition of selfless service through volunteers and charitable organizations operating throughout the pilgrimage period.
Annual Pilgrimage Supports Regional Economy
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides its religious significance, the pilgrimage contributes to the regional economy by generating seasonal employment in transport, hospitality, retail, tourism, and related services. Government agencies coordinate security, healthcare, disaster response, and infrastructure each year to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and manage weather-related challenges in the high-altitude region.
