Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued his “7 Appeals” during a public gathering in Telangana’s Secunderabad on May 11, 2026, the campaign has rapidly moved into the implementation stage across several parts of India. What began as an appeal for responsible fuel use during the ongoing West Asia crisis is now emerging as a broader push toward energy conservation, sustainable living, and climate-conscious governance.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption, use public transport, adopt carpooling, support work-from-home culture, reduce edible oil use, avoid unnecessary foreign expenditure, and encourage natural farming practices.

The appeal came as global crude oil prices witnessed renewed volatility following tensions in West Asia and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes. India imports nearly 85 percent of its crude oil requirement, making the economy highly sensitive to international fuel market disruptions.

PM Modi 7 Appeals Enter Implementation Phase

Following PM Modi’s appeal, Union ministers and BJP-ruled states have started implementing fuel-saving measures and administrative reforms aimed at reducing non-essential energy consumption.

Uttar Pradesh announced a 50 percent reduction in government vehicle fleets used by ministers and officials. Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh also introduced steps encouraging carpooling, electric vehicles, public transport, and virtual meetings.

Several ministers reduced convoy sizes, while government departments increased the use of online meetings and hybrid work systems to lower travel-related fuel use.

Officials stated that all essential services and mandatory security arrangements would continue without disruption.

Global Conflict Raises Long-Term Energy Concerns

Energy analysts say the duration of the PM Modi fuel conservation campaign may depend on the future course of geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Any prolonged disruption in global oil supply routes could affect fuel prices, transportation costs, inflation, and import bills for energy-dependent economies like India.

Experts say the uncertainty surrounding global conflicts is increasing pressure on countries to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and strengthen domestic sustainability measures.
