Why 125 Inspections Across NCR In Just 12 Days Have Put Air Pollution Enforcement Back In Focus

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has intensified anti-pollution enforcement across the National Capital Region (NCR). In its latest review meeting, the Enforcement Task Force (ETF) reported that 125 inspections were conducted within 12 days between April 29 and May 10, 2026. The inspections targeted construction sites, industrial units and diesel generator (DG) sets linked to air pollution concerns across NCR.
Violations Found Across Construction Sites And Industries
According to CAQM, officials detected 39 violations during the inspections. These included 10 violations at Construction and Demolition (C&D) sites, 10 in the industrial sector and 19 involving DG sets. Authorities carried out 20 inspections at construction sites, 51 inspections in industrial areas and 54 inspections related to DG set operations.
Based on the findings, enforcement agencies proposed closure of seven units or projects, sealing of 13 DG sets and issuance of 12 show-cause notices. Environmental compensation was proposed in four cases, while advisories were issued in three cases. Officials stated that six enforcement actions have already been completed and others are under process.
NCR Pollution Control Measures Expand
The ETF also reviewed action taken after its previous meeting. Officials confirmed that all actionable cases linked to industries, construction activities and DG sets had been addressed by concerned agencies. Authorities also issued 17 resumption orders after verifying compliance standards. These included 13 industrial units and four construction projects across NCR.
Separately, the task force examined road dust control measures. The Noida Authority inspected 46 locations on May 8 and identified 28 violations. Show-cause notices were issued in repeat cases linked to dust management failures.
Over 27,000 Units Inspected So Far
CAQM stated that Flying Squads have inspected 27,133 units, projects and entities across NCR till May 18, 2026. Authorities issued 1,784 closure directions during this period. Out of these, 1,382 resumption orders were later approved after compliance verification. Another 279 cases remain under examination.
The Commission reiterated the need for stronger enforcement, faster compliance checks and stricter monitoring to reduce air pollution levels across NCR.
