After days of intense heat across north India, the India Meteorological Department has forecast relief for Delhi-NCR with light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected from April 28.
A yellow alert has been issued, indicating possible disruptions due to changing weather conditions. Wind speeds are likely to reach 30–40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph. Daytime temperatures are expected to ease slightly to 40–42 degrees Celsius, followed by a further dip to 39–41 degrees Celsius on April 29. Cloud cover may persist through midweek, bringing temperatures closer to 37 degrees Celsius.
Heatwave Continues Across Northern India
Despite the expected relief in Delhi, several regions continue to experience extreme heat. Temperatures across parts of the country ranged between 40 and 47 degrees Celsius. Banda recorded 47.6 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country and a record for April.
Heatwave conditions remain severe in the Bundelkhand region, including Jhansi and Orai. Meanwhile, temperature departures of over 5 degrees Celsius above normal were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.
Rainfall Outlook Across Northwest India
The IMD has forecast scattered rainfall with thunderstorms across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi between April 27–30, with additional activity expected in early May.
Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exposure during peak heat hours.
