From metro systems and high-rise buildings to flood-control projects, some of the components that help infrastructure function safely remain hidden after construction. One Thailand-based manufacturer, Dextra Group, is supplying such products to projects in countries around the world while expanding its workforce.

Dextra makes concrete reinforcement products and engineered construction solutions. According to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), its products have been used in more than 20,000 projects across 55 countries. The company employs more than 1,000 people.

From Bangkok Buildings To Dhaka Metro

The company's products include steel reinforcement couplers, which connect sections of reinforcement inside concrete structures.

Dextra supplied reinforcement coupler systems for Bangladesh's Dhaka MRT Line 6, the country's first metro rail system, according to IFC. The components are used within stations and elevated structures.

In Bangkok, Dextra reinforcement couplers were used in the King Power Mahanakhon tower. After the March 2025 earthquake in Myanmar sent tremors into Bangkok, Thai authorities ordered inspections of high-rise buildings. IFC reported that the tower was cleared as safe.

That inspection does not establish that Dextra products were responsible for the building's performance.

Infrastructure Also Creates Technical Jobs

Dextra is part of the portfolio of Lakeshore Capital, a Thailand-based private equity manager backed by IFC. IFC became an anchor investor in Lakeshore's first fund in 2014.

Across Lakeshore's first two funds, portfolio companies employ about 8,600 full-time workers, with more than 1,800 jobs added after investment, according to IFC. Dextra accounts for more than 1,000 employees, including more than 200 positions added since Lakeshore's investment.

The company also supplies materials for projects outside Southeast Asia. In Saudi Arabia, IFC cites its involvement in the Jizan Flood Mitigation Channel, where glass-fiber reinforced polymer reinforcement is used in areas exposed to corrosion.

For the public, the role of companies such as Dextra is often most visible through the infrastructure their products support: transport networks, buildings and flood-protection systems. The manufacturing work behind those projects also provides technical and industrial employment.
