India’s Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has launched the implementation phase of Special Campaign 6 to improve cleanliness, clear pending official matters and strengthen government records management. The campaign began on Oct. 2, 2026, on Swachh Bharat Diwas, and will continue until Oct. 31.
The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) is the nodal department for the nationwide initiative. The campaign aims to improve administrative efficiency, promote digital governance and make government workplaces cleaner and more organised.
Special Campaign 6 Focuses on Cleanliness and Administrative Efficiency
The launch event took place at Grih Kalyan Kendra on Lodhi Road in New Delhi. The programme included a Swachhata pledge, a cleanliness drive, floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and tree plantation. Organisers also held cultural presentations on cleanliness and honoured sanitation workers, known as Swachhata Karmayogis.
The preparatory phase ran from Sept. 16 to Sept. 30. During this period, DoPT reviewed pending VIP references, public grievances, parliamentary assurances and other matters requiring time-bound action. The department and its associated offices also prepared plans to clear backlogs and improve the use of office space.
Records Management and Digital Governance Under Review
The campaign includes a review of physical and electronic records. Officials identified documents for digitisation, obsolete records for disposal and opportunities to use existing office space more effectively.
The department has uploaded campaign targets to DARPG’s Special Campaign 6 monitoring portal. The portal will support progress tracking and reviews during the implementation period.
These measures aim to improve record accessibility, reduce unnecessary storage and support more efficient administrative processes. Their overall impact will depend on implementation and the results reported by participating offices.
E-Waste Disposal and Sustainable Government Workplaces
Special Campaign 6 also places emphasis on the collection, segregation and proper disposal of electronic waste. DoPT has directed stakeholders to follow the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, while managing obsolete electronic equipment.
The initiative also promotes capacity building through the iGOT Karmayogi digital learning platform. Its broader objectives include transparency, accountability, cyber security and better public service delivery.
The campaign runs through Oct. 31. Official progress reports will be needed to assess how far the targets for cleanliness, pending matters, records management and e-waste disposal have been achieved.
