Bollywood filmmaker and television host Karan Johar will host the Earthshot Prize Awards Night in Mumbai on Nov. 17, 2026. The global environmental ceremony was founded by Prince William and will be held in India for the first time.

The Earthshot Prize 2026 will recognise environmental solutions focused on protecting and restoring the planet. The ceremony will bring together 15 finalists from around the world. Five winners will each receive £1 million to help expand their solutions.

Johar said he was proud to become the first Indian to host the annual ceremony. He said holding the event in Mumbai made the occasion particularly meaningful.

Why Prince William’s Earthshot Prize Is Coming To Mumbai

Mumbai will become the first Indian city to host the Earthshot Prize Awards. Previous ceremonies have taken place in London, Boston, Singapore, Cape Town and Rio de Janeiro.

Prince William founded the Earthshot Prize to support solutions addressing major environmental challenges. The 2026 programme will also include an Earthshot Prize Summit in Mumbai.

The summit is expected to bring together innovators, business leaders, investors, funders and communities. Discussions will focus on partnerships and the development of environmental solutions.

India’s Growing Role In Climate Innovation

According to the Earthshot Prize, the 2026 finalists were selected from nearly 7,000 nominations across 169 countries. More than 150 experts were involved in the selection process.

India has previously been represented among Earthshot Prize winners and finalists. The organisation says India is home to seven finalists, including four previous winners.

The 2026 finalists include Mahindra Last Mile Mobility and Mahila Housing Trust. Their work covers areas including clean transportation, housing, climate action and environmental sustainability.
