Delhi-based Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is hosting a two-day National Workshop on Seafood Exports in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on 5–6 June 2026. The event aims to strengthen India’s seafood export ecosystem, focusing on value addition, traceability, and stakeholder integration.
The inaugural session will include senior officials such as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu; Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, and Chirag Paswan; along with Ministers of State from the Department of Fisheries. Representatives from key institutions—including the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Export Inspection Council (EIC), Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), and NABARD—will participate. Seafood exporters, processors, start-ups, and industry associations are also expected to attend.
Technical Sessions Focus On Export Strategies and Value Chain Integration
Day one will feature stakeholder interactions and presentations by line ministries, highlighting policies, schemes, and sectoral support including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY) and Kisan Credit Cards (KCC). Day two will hold two technical sessions: one on enhancing exports through certification, traceability, and value addition; the other on integrating start-ups, MSMEs, and emerging sectors to diversify export growth. The workshop is designed to recommend regulatory and infrastructure measures for the sector.
Sector Growth and Infrastructure Developments
India’s seafood exports reached a record ₹73,890.46 crore (USD 8.45 billion) in 2025–26, with 19.72 lakh metric tonnes exported. Andhra Pradesh, the largest seafood-producing state, contributed with 55.39 lakh tonnes in aquaculture production and has received ₹2,324.17 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for infrastructure projects, including fish landing centres, fishing harbours, and integrated aqua parks. Initiatives under PMMSY, PMMKSSY, and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) support over four lakh beneficiaries.
The workshop is expected to provide a strategic framework for India to achieve its target of ₹1 lakh crore in seafood exports, enhance competitiveness, and reinforce the country’s position in international markets.
