Dell Technologies, in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has expanded its Solar Community Hub Skill Vans programme in India with the launch of five new solar-powered mobile training units aimed at improving digital access and job-oriented skilling in underserved regions.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary flagged off the new vans in New Delhi on June 9. The initiative is implemented by the Learning Links Foundation and is designed to deliver AI-enabled learning tools, vocational training modules and employability pathways directly to communities with limited access to formal training infrastructure.
The vans will operate across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Telangana and Maharashtra, extending outreach to vocational institutions, higher education centres and community organisations.
Solar-Powered Mobile Units Deliver AI-Based Training
Each Skill Van is powered by solar energy and equipped with laptops, internet connectivity, interactive screens and AI-enabled learning tools. The mobile units are designed to function in areas with limited digital infrastructure, enabling training delivery without reliance on fixed facilities.
According to programme details, the initiative focuses on structured skilling aligned with evolving labour market needs. Training modules are designed to support learners for emerging roles influenced by automation, digital tools and artificial intelligence.
Officials said the expansion will extend support to more than 50 vocational, higher education and community institutions, improving access to technology-enabled learning in remote and underserved locations.
Public-Private Model To Strengthen Workforce Readiness
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship described the initiative as part of a broader effort to strengthen digital inclusion and improve employability outcomes through public-private collaboration.
Dell Technologies said the programme combines renewable energy with digital education infrastructure to deliver scalable, community-based learning solutions. The company said the model is designed to help prepare learners for future job requirements driven by technological change.
Since FY23, the Solar Community Hub Skill Vans programme has reached 18 districts across 14 states, with organisers reporting an estimated 2.67 million beneficiaries. The initiative also operates in multiple countries as part of a global skilling programme.
Focus On Future Employment And Digital Access
Officials said the initiative is aimed not only at addressing current skill gaps but also at preparing participants for future job markets shaped by rapid technological advancement.
The programme aligns with national priorities to expand digital literacy, improve vocational training systems and support inclusive economic growth. Authorities said mobile, solar-powered training platforms could help reduce regional disparities in access to education and skills development.
The expansion is expected to strengthen access to job-relevant training for youth and women in underserved communities, while supporting long-term workforce development goals in India.
