Bengaluru is expected to receive heavy evening rain on Tuesday as weather conditions turn favourable for strong thunderstorms across the city.
The warning comes after several days of warm and humid weather in Karnataka’s capital. Dark clouds gathered over many parts of the city during the afternoon, signalling unstable atmospheric conditions. Experts said sudden thunderstorms could develop quickly and bring short periods of high-intensity rain.
Heavy Rain May Trigger Waterlogging
Forecasters said low-lying areas and regions with poor drainage could face waterlogging during peak rainfall hours. Traffic congestion is also likely on major roads during the evening commute. Civic authorities advised residents to remain cautious while travelling and avoid waterlogged stretches.
Strong winds accompanying the storms may lead to tree falls and minor infrastructure damage in isolated areas. Local authorities have also warned motorists to drive carefully due to reduced visibility during heavy showers.
Weather experts said isolated hailstorms could occur in some neighbourhoods of Bengaluru and nearby districts. Such weather patterns are common during the pre-monsoon season in southern India when heat and moisture combine to produce severe thunderstorms.
Temperature Expected To Drop After Sunset
The expected rainfall is likely to bring relief from rising daytime temperatures. Meteorologists said temperatures could fall noticeably after sunset because of cloud cover and rain-cooled winds.
The India Meteorological Department has issued regular advisories in recent weeks as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across southern states. Bengaluru has witnessed repeated spells of thunderstorms this month, causing localised flooding and traffic delays in several areas.
Experts said changing wind patterns and increased moisture levels over peninsular India are supporting the current weather system. Residents have been advised to monitor official weather updates and plan evening travel carefully.
Pre-Monsoon Weather Activity Rising Across South India
Southern Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, have reported increasing thunderstorm activity ahead of the southwest monsoon season. Meteorologists expect such weather conditions to continue intermittently over the coming days as seasonal transition patterns strengthen across the region.
