The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has identified 34 cases of visible road dust violations across Delhi following a recent inspection drive, highlighting ongoing challenges in controlling urban air pollution.
The inspections were conducted on April 22, 2026, under “Operation Clean Air,” with five flying squad teams deployed across key zones, including Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, and West Delhi. These areas fall under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Inspection Finds Gaps in Dust Control Measures
According to official findings, multiple road stretches showed high levels of visible dust and accumulation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Key locations included Mahakavi Goswami Tulsidas Marg, Najafgarh Road, Ring Road Punjabi Bagh, and Azadpur Road.
The presence of dust and waste indicates gaps in routine maintenance such as mechanized sweeping and water sprinkling. Authorities noted that delayed removal of debris and unauthorized dumping are contributing factors to localized pollution levels.
Authorities Directed to Strengthen Enforcement
The CAQM has instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other agencies to improve on-ground implementation of dust control measures. These include regular road sweeping, effective water sprinkling, and timely clearance of C&D waste.
The commission also emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and accountability for lapses. Enhanced monitoring systems have been recommended to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Operation Clean Air to Continue Across NCR
The CAQM stated that inspection drives will continue across Delhi-NCR as part of ongoing efforts to reduce particulate pollution. Road dust and poorly managed construction waste remain key contributors to declining air quality in urban areas.
The commission is coordinating with multiple agencies to enforce statutory guidelines and implement Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures. These steps aim to address pollution at the source and improve air quality outcomes in the region.
